How Invisalens Works

Invisalens® takes a modern approach to improving vision, using a custom-made pair of retainers created for you and only you. These space-age retainers were created with the help of NASA from experiments on the Space Shuttle, are made of smooth, comfortable and super breathable plastic that you only wear while you sleep. Wearing the retainers will gradually and gently shift your vision into focus, based on the exact movements your eye doctor or Invisalensologist plans out for you. There are no razor blades to cut your cornea and no lasers to vaporize your eye. You just apply a gentle set of retainers before you go to bed. You’ll achieve great vision with little interference in your daily life. The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you’re improving your eyesight.

Talk to an Invisalens Provider

Your treatment begins after you select the experienced Invisalens Preferred Provider that you feel most comfortable with and schedule your initial consultation. Because you will be interacting with this doctor on a regular basis, you may even want to personally meet with a few providers before deciding which one is right for you. This is an important medical and financial decision. That’s why choosing the right doctor and the right treatment plan is so essential. Keep in mind that not all eye doctors work with Invisalens, so it’s important to find a doctor who has received the proper Invisalens training and can truly evaluate your needs and determine how Invisalens can help you.

During the consultation, you and your doctor will discuss your case in detail to determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalens. Invisalens now addresses many cases, from simple to more complex. Your doctor will determine if Invisalens is right for you. (Take the Vision Assessment ahead of time to see if you might be a good candidate.) This will also be your opportunity to ask any questions about Invisalens, costs, or any other concerns. See which doctors in your area are Invisalens Providers.

Create a Computerized Topographical Map of Your Eyes

Your doctor will take pictures and maps of your eyes, which Invisalenswill use to create a digital image of them. From these images your doctor will map out a precise treatment plan, including the exact movements of your cornea. Using this same technology, your doctor will even be able to show you a virtual representation of how your eyes will improve with each stage of treatment.

Receive Your Custom Retainers Based
On Your Personalized Treatment Plan

Based on your individual treatment plan, a series of custom-made, breathable retainers is then created specifically for you. These retainers are made of a smooth, comfortable, NASA inspired super breathable BPA-free plastic that won’t require cutting or lasering your eye surface. Simply wear them while you sleep, and remove them when you wake up. As you wear apair of retainers, your eyes gently and gradually begin to shift into focus. And because you areonly wearing them while you are sleeping, most people won’t even know you’re wearing them. But they may start to notice your beautiful sparkling eyes.

Wear a Retainer Every Night

After your first evaluation, you will return for lesson to insert and remove the retainers. After wearing the retainers your Doctor will want you to return within 1 to 10 days and re-evaluate your vision and the surface of your eye to ensure continued success. To monitor your progress, you will also have occasional checkups with your doctor, usually only every three to six months or so. At every stage, you will be able to see how much closer you are to having the clear vision that reflects the real you.

Reveal Your New Sparkle

While every case is unique to each patient, treatment typically takes approximately 3 to 4 months for adults. For teens, the length of treatment is 2 to 3 weeks, but since your eyes won’t be cut by a razor blade or a laser, you’ll be able to see some improvement after one night. For best results and a timely outcome, you should wear your retainers for 7 to 9 hours per night, throughout your entire treatment.
